Getting lost underground, seeing in the dark and moving by digging, like a mole or like the invertebrate tardigrade, capable of surviving in the absence of water and oxygen. Produced thanks to the ‘Humus’ residency at IAC Matera, starting from a research initiated in collaboration with FAO (Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations), Underneath is a show dedicated to the soil, a mysterious, precious and difficult to observe environment, as essential for life on Earth as it is threatened by human behaviour. A story that proposes a new awareness of agricultural progress and climate change, inviting us to reflect on everyone’s role in building a sustainable world.

FOSSICK PROJECT
The FOSSICK PROJECT is a duo formed by artist Cecilia Valagussa and singer-songwriter Marta Del Grandi. Their collaboration started in 2016 as a setup for improvised performances, later evolving with storytelling as a central element. Inspired by nature and the animal world, they choose to focus on animals at risk of extinction, creating performances related to the habitat of the species they choose as protagonists. Over the years, they have performed in Italy, Belgium, France, India, Nepal and Thailand. In their live shows, Cecilia animates puppets on coloured sheets and materials such as sand and water, while Marta creates songs that combine voice, synths, guitars, beats and environmental recordings of the places where they perform.
